Is Thermal Paste Under the CPU Metal Plate a Problem?

I was cleaning the thermal paste off my 9950X CPU with an alcohol pad when I accidentally pushed some paste into the gap under the metal plate. Since I need to return it to a friend who might use it in another computer, I'm wondering if this is a problem. The gap is too narrow for any tools to reach the paste. Any advice on what to do would be really appreciated! Here's a photo for reference: [link]. Also, I used "Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut", which I believe is non-conductive.

It sounds like you're talking about the IHS. Don't worry too much about it; just clean up what you can reach to make it look nice. Most thermal pastes, including the one you mentioned, aren't electrically conductive, so you should be okay! Just a heads-up: avoid trying to remove that paste with tools—you're better off leaving it as is to avoid damaging any components.

I can't give you much advice on cleaning it, but if it’s a non-conductive paste, you should be fine. Most thermal pastes are safe and shouldn’t affect the CPU's functionality at all.

Assuming your thermal paste is the usual non-conductive type, you don’t need to worry. There’s no risk here, just some extra mess to deal with!

If it's typical non-conductive thermal paste, it won't matter in terms of performance. Sure, it looks a bit messy, but it shouldn't cause any issues.
