I'm fairly new to building PCs and want to replace my current system, which is about five years old and was already fairly weak when I bought it. My target budget is around $2,000, and I'll mainly be playing Fortnite, Roblox, Minecraft, and other games. I've heard the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is an excellent gaming processor and should pair well with an RTX 5070. Are there any parts I should change to improve the performance or value? My current list comes to about $2,143.40: Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Arctic Liquid Freezer III Pro 360mm cooler, Gigabyte B850 Aorus Elite WiFi 7 motherboard, 16GB DDR5-6000 memory, 2TB Crucial P310 NVMe SSD, Gigabyte RTX 5070, Corsair Frame 4000D case, and an MSI 850W Gold power supply.

AMD graphics cards currently tend to offer better performance per dollar. Nvidia is still the better choice for heavy VR, triple-monitor sim racing, and some professional video or 3D applications, but the RX 9070 XT should be excellent for the games you listed. It has more raw performance than the RTX 5070, while the Nvidia card mainly has advantages in features such as AI upscaling and certain professional workloads.
You can get better value by choosing a less expensive motherboard, moving to 32GB of RAM, and selecting a stronger graphics card. The 16GB memory kit is especially poor value at that price. An RX 9070 XT offers more raw gaming performance, 16GB of VRAM, and costs less than the RTX 5070 in this list. I’d also look for a reputable, faster SSD and a good-quality power supply. A revised build with those changes comes in around $2,070.

If you have access to a nearby Micro Center, check their CPU, motherboard, and memory bundles. A bundle with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and 32GB of DDR5 could be worth considering, although it may push the total above $2,300. A less expensive Ryzen 5 7600X3D bundle would keep the cost lower and should still perform very well for Fortnite, Minecraft, Roblox, and similar games.
Some stores may also let you pay the difference to upgrade the processor while keeping the bundle, so it’s worth asking about that option.
That comparison helped a lot. Since I’m mostly gaming, I’m probably going to choose the RX 9070 XT.
