I'm planning to upgrade my motherboard, CPU, and RAM, and I'm considering a combo deal from Newegg. I already have a decent GPU, specifically an EVGA GTX 3080. This will be my first time using an AMD processor since I've always believed Intel was the best option for gaming in the past, but I've heard that things are changing.
I'm looking at a specific combo that includes the new motherboard, CPU, and RAM. Ideally, I would like the 9800X3D processor, but I haven't found any great deals on just that processor alone. I'm thinking about underclocking it to optimize performance.
It's been about 6 or 8 years since I put together a PC, and I always feel a bit wary about these 'deals,' but this one seems like a good opportunity unless someone advises against it. My only concern is the RAM brand because I've heard mixed things about V-Color, but some research suggests they have a solid reputation now. I'd appreciate any insights you all might have. Thanks!

I just bought the RAM and the 9850X3D for around $650. I haven't installed it yet, but the RAM I chose has Hynix memory ICs, and at 6400MHz CL32, it should have some solid overclocking potential.
I recently picked up a similar setup from Microcenter for $800 after tax, which included the same motherboard, a 9800X3D, and DDR5-6000 RAM. Here’s the link to that bundle if you're interested.
I was looking at that too. The closest Microcenter is quite a drive, and it doesn't seem like they ship those deals.
I was in the same situation last year! If I were doing it now, I’d definitely say that combo looks pretty enticing. Seems like a great choice!
Thanks!
That's a solid combo! The TUF motherboard is top-tier for sure. As for the RAM, V-Color used to be seen as just a cheap brand, but they’ve ramped up their quality over the last few years. Most of their RAM is from reputable sources like Micron or Samsung, so you should be good to go. With the deal you mentioned, it’s like getting a free CPU!
Thanks for the reply!
Honestly, these days with RAM prices being so crazy, this deal is practically giving you the CPU for free when you buy the RAM and motherboard. If I didn’t just need a CPU to finish my build, I’d jump on this deal for sure!
Good to hear. Thanks for the response!
