I'm considering upgrading my CPU and motherboard while keeping my DDR4 RAM. I've already bought 64GB of DDR4 RAM and would like to use it rather than upgrade to DDR5 right now. My current build includes an Intel i7-6700K, an RTX 5060 Ti GPU, and a range of storage options. Since I'm experiencing performance issues in games like Ark Raiders due to my CPU, I'm looking at moving to an Intel i7-14700KF along with a MSI PRO Z790-P WiFi DDR4 motherboard. I want to know if this upgrade path makes sense, if the new motherboard is compatible, if there are any concerns with reusing my power supply or DDR4 RAM, and whether I should stick with the Z790 or consider a B760 DDR4 board. Am I making a mistake by not switching to DDR5?

Your choice of components is a bit puzzling for gaming, especially with Ark Raiders. Many recommend going with an AMD 5000 series CPU for better gaming performance and compatibility with your DDR4 RAM. Are you sure you want to stick with Intel? I’d suggest exploring AMD options; they might give you better value for your setup!
What speed is your DDR4 RAM currently running at? That could affect your upgrade performance. If you're at 2133MHz, it's worth noting that you could run it at 3200MHz with the new setup since the Z790 should support that. Just check if your RAM is rated for it when you upgrade!
I believe it's 2133MHz, but I expect it to run at 3200MHz with the new motherboard since my current setup doesn't support it well.

I appreciate the feedback! I'm open to advice. What's the advantage of the AMD 5000 series compared to the Intel upgrade?
