Is this high-end PC build sensible for heavy modding and shaders?

I'm putting together my first PC and want it to handle extensive modding and shader-heavy gaming smoothly, with enough storage and no unnecessary compromises to performance. The current build is an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, NVIDIA RTX 5080 16GB, Noctua NH-D15 G2 cooler, MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk WiFi motherboard, 32GB (2×16GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 memory, a 2TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, and an 850W ATX 3.1 80+ Gold power supply. I'm in the UK and want to stay under £3,000. The estimated total is about £2,830, including roughly £1,218 for the GPU, £358.99 for the CPU, £45 for a Thermalright Phantom Spirit replacement cooler, £259 for the motherboard, £360 for the RAM, £300 for storage, and £115 for the PSU. Is this balanced, or am I overspending in areas that won't noticeably improve performance?

The Noctua cooler is high quality but usually offers only a small advantage over cheaper dual-tower coolers. Switching to the Thermalright Phantom Spirit for around £45 is a sensible change, and the money saved could go toward a larger SSD, more memory, or simply remain in the budget. The rest of the parts look broadly well matched, and an 850W ATX 3.1 Gold PSU should be suitable for this configuration.

The main performance parts are excellent, although the RTX 5080 often costs a lot more than alternatives such as the RTX 5070 Ti or RX 9070 XT without offering the same value increase. If you’re gaming at 1440p, one of those cheaper cards may be enough; the 5080 makes more sense for high-refresh 1440p or 4K.

It’s both a very strong build and somewhat overkill. The 9800X3D and RTX 5080 are excellent choices for demanding games, mods, and shaders, but whether they’re worthwhile depends on your resolution, refresh rate, and how heavily you’ll use those settings.
