I'm in the process of ordering parts for my new build and I'm concerned about whether my power supply unit (PSU) is adequate for the RTX 5090. I want to avoid any risks like overheating or damaging the GPU. Here's the PSU I'm considering: a SilverStone Strider Platinum 1200W which I found on PCPartPicker. Do you think it can handle the 5090? Also, how can I check if it includes all the necessary cables, especially the 16-pin 12V connector for the 5090?

If you haven't bought the PSU yet, I’d really advise against going with an ATX 2 PSU in 2025. Look for an ATX 3 instead. It’s not just about having the right connectors but also the ability to handle the higher peak loads the 5090 might demand, which could be up to 900W—this could trip your 1200W unit.

I'm ordering the PSU new. Would a 1200W Platinum or Titanium be fine for the 5090?

Your wattage seems good, but keep in mind that this PSU doesn’t have the dedicated 600W 12VHPWR connector, meaning you'll have to use an adapter. Most GPUs typically come with one, so it should work. To check for cables, look for anything that is ATX 3.0 or higher, as those will include the newer connectors you'll need.
