The system will be primarily for gaming, but I'd also like it to perform well for general use and other tasks. Are these parts compatible and sensibly balanced? Would you replace any components with alternatives at a similar price?

The build is a reasonable starting point, but the RAM price stands out as unusually high for a 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30 kit. I’d double-check that listing first, since a normal-priced kit could free up a substantial part of your budget. The same applies to checking whether the SSD and graphics card are competitively priced locally.
The parts look generally good and compatible for a high-end gaming build. However, the individual prices make a big difference, so listing your country and the cost of every component helps people identify where you could save money without sacrificing performance.
