Is Upgrading from 13700k to 9800x3d Worth It?

Hey everyone! I currently own a 13700k with 32GB of DDR4 RAM and a 5070ti, and I usually game at a 3440x1440p resolution. My main titles are flight sim, Path of Exile, and a few looter shooters. I've been experiencing some CPU struggles specifically with flight sim, and I'm considering upgrading to a 9800x3d with 64GB of DDR5 RAM. I don't do much aside from gaming and some light spreadsheet work on this PC. I'd love to hear any advice or firsthand experiences regarding this upgrade! Is it worth it right now?

It really depends on what you mean by 'worth it.' The 9800x3d definitely outperforms the 13700k when it comes to gaming. If that's your main focus, then the upgrade might be justified for you.

I have a 13700k with the same RAM configuration. Personally, I've decided to hold off on the upgrade for now until the next generation drops. Switching to a new CPU, RAM, and motherboard can be pretty expensive. At least my PSU still has plenty of capacity left, so that's a bonus!

Yeah, I'm in a similar situation. Getting into a DDR5 setup right now feels risky because of the limited support for universal CUDIMM, making it an even tougher decision to invest in that kind of upgrade.

The X3D chip has a solid advantage in high-fps scenarios, especially in games that can utilize its cache effectively. Check out some benchmarks specific to flight sim, as they might show you if you'll get noticeable improvements. In terms of overall CPU performance, the 13700k is actually slightly better than the 9800x3d.

For Path of Exile, I can verify that my 7800X3D has been fantastic! Last league, I was able to handle intense scenarios without crashes. While the upgrade might be pricey, if you can afford it and it makes a big difference in your gaming, it could be worth it. You could also wait for the 11800X3D in a year or two if you want to hold out. Either way, it's something to consider based on your budget.

I can manage the cost, but I'm a bit concerned about how much my performance in flight sim might be limited by my current CPU. I might be able to offset some costs by selling my 13700k and other parts.
