Is Upgrading from 144Hz to 240Hz Worth It for Gaming?

I'm currently using a 16-inch laptop with a 144Hz display and mostly play games like Valorant, Minecraft, and some story-driven titles. I've been considering getting a monitor as the small screen feels cramped. I'm aiming for a 24-25 inch 1080p monitor and want to know if the jump to 240Hz is really worth it, especially since I'm decent at gaming but still use a Logitech M170 mouse. I'd appreciate any suggestions on panel types too. Thanks in advance!

While moving from a 16-inch to a 24-inch monitor is definitely a good upgrade, the jump to 240Hz may not be necessary for every game. You might notice the most difference in Valorant, where you could potentially reach stable 240 FPS. For other games, the benefits might not be as clear cut. I recommend sticking with a standard IPS panel for good color and viewing angles.

Going from 144Hz to 240Hz offers some improvement in smoothness, but if you find a better deal on a great 144 or 165Hz panel, that's a solid choice too. Prioritize other factors like quality, such as OLED, over pure refresh rate. Plus, make sure your laptop can actually output 240Hz through its ports.

If your setup can consistently reach more than 144 FPS, then a 240Hz monitor might be beneficial. With that said, you mentioned getting around 260+ FPS in Valorant, which is excellent. Just keep in mind that the jump from 144Hz to 240Hz isn't gigantic, but it does feel smoother, especially in fast-paced games.

You'll notice some improvement in terms of response time and input lag with a higher refresh rate, but a lot of the benefits might be minimal after 144Hz. It's worth checking if your laptop supports 240Hz with whatever output you have, considering HDMI limitations.

Having made the switch from 144Hz to 240Hz, I can say that while the initial jump wasn't huge, if I switch back to 144Hz after getting used to 240Hz, it feels much more significant. Just be sure to read reviews to find a good monitor since not all high Hz displays perform well.
