Is Upgrading from a 1080 Ti to a 3060 a Good Idea?

I'm currently using a Ryzen 7 3700X and I'm thinking about upgrading my GPU from a GTX 1080 Ti to an RTX 3060. I'm not sure if I should also consider upgrading my CPU in the process. Can anyone share their thoughts on whether this GPU upgrade makes sense?

Honestly, I think the 3700X is still solid enough to handle the 3060 without issues. If you're aiming for better performance, focus on getting a stronger GPU first. If you find your CPU bottlenecking later, you can consider upgrading then.

Good point! Testing performance after the upgrade makes sense.

Yep, see how it performs first before switching CPUs.

Upgrading to a 3060 from a 1080 Ti isn't really an upgrade. The 1080 Ti can still outperform the 3060 in most cases, unless you're specifically looking for ray tracing features. I suggest keeping your 3700X and considering a better GPU instead if you can afford it. Maybe look into something like a 4070 or better?

Exactly! It feels more like a side grade than an upgrade.

Totally agree, keep the 3700X for now!

The 1080 Ti is still a beast and it's not worth downgrading to a 3060. You should at least look for a 5060 or better if you're making a change. Keep that 1080 Ti unless it's failing you.

Your current CPU is fine for the 3060, but an upgrade might be necessary if you start seeing 100% load frequently with your CPU while gaming. Otherwise, consider saving for a more powerful GPU in the future!

Right! Focus on what you need based on how your system performs.

Definitely, see how your current setup behaves first!
