I'm considering upgrading my GPU from a 2070 Super to a 5060 8GB. However, I'm having a hard time understanding the specification differences and whether the upgrade would be justified. Can someone break it down simply and explain why or why not I should make this purchase?

You should check out some reviews on channels like Hardware Unboxed or Gamers Nexus. They really dive into the specs and make comparisons that show how disappointing these newer 8GB cards can be. Specs can be misleading, so it’s best to get expert opinions.

Totally agree! Those channels lay it all out and call out the inconsistencies.

Honestly, I wouldn't recommend the 5060 8GB at all. Instead, you might want to look at the 4070 Ti Super which has 16GB and performs like the RTX 3090 Ti, all while drawing just 200W. If you're considering used GPUs, you can snag a decent spec from older generations at a great price.

Yeah, the performance difference is huge! If you can find a good deal on a used 3080, that could really be worth it.

If you're serious about gaming, I suggest avoiding any GPU with less than 12GB of VRAM right now. The 8GB VRAM model is already having trouble keeping up with some of the latest games. Consider the 9060 XT 16GB for AMD or even wait for a better Nvidia option.

Thanks for the tips, everyone! I guess I should consider saving up a bit for a better model like the 5060 Ti 16GB instead of making an immediate purchase of the 8GB version.

In terms of performance, you likely won't see a significant boost moving to the 5060 8GB. There's a video comparing the 2070 Super and 5060, and most tests showed minimal to no improvement, which basically makes it a poor investment.
