Is Upgrading from a 5600X to a 5700X Worth It for Gaming?

Hey folks, I currently have a Ryzen 5 5600X and I'm considering upgrading to a Ryzen 7 5700X. The upgrade will cost me about $150, but I can sell my 5600X for around $90, making the net cost not too bad. I'm running an RX 9070 GPU and I usually get around 60 FPS on most single-player games at 1440p on ultra settings. However, I do experience some performance issues in CPU-heavy games like Squad and Escape from Tarkov. I'm curious if upgrading to the 5700X will offer a noticeable boost in these types of games. New AM4 X3D processors are really hard to find and quite pricey (over $500), and switching to AM5 would be costly too, especially with DDR5 RAM prices. My other specs include 32 GB of RAM and a solid motherboard with good cooling. Any thoughts?

I’d suggest saving up for a used 5700X3D or 5800X3D instead. The improvement won't be very visible with the basic 5700X on the AM4 platform, and finding those X3D options for a decent price will be a lot more effective in the long run.

For sure! Just keep in mind that used prices for those X3D CPUs can be pretty high right now. But still better than spending on a whole new DDR5 setup!

Honestly, the performance difference between the 5600X and 5700X isn't going to be huge in games like Tarkov—maybe less than 1%. If you really want a noticeable upgrade, you'd be better off looking at X3D CPUs. Even a 5800XT only offers a slight boost, maybe 2%.

If your 5600X is bottlenecking in Tarkov, you might see some improvement, but otherwise, it's probably not worth the switch. The 5700X doesn’t have significantly more cache than the 5600X, which is what Tarkov really thrives on.

You'll see a performance lift only if your games can actually utilize more cores than the 6 offered by the 5600X. The number of games able to take advantage of higher core counts is growing, but most won’t show any performance gain at all with the 5700X.

For gaming, I really don’t think it’s worth it. The 5600X3D might even outperform the 5700X. Consider holding off for an AM5 upgrade; it might pay off better in the long run. A 7600X is competitive with a 5800X3D—just keep an eye out for deals!
