Is Upgrading from a 980 Ti to a 5060 Ti a Smart Move?

I built a PC for my wife last year using some leftover parts from my old setup. I'm thinking about upgrading the graphics card from a 980 Ti to a 5060 Ti with 16GB of memory because the 980 Ti is getting old and I'm worried about potential price hikes. She mainly plays games like Stardew Valley, Cozy Grove, and Date Everything. Do you think this upgrade would be worthwhile? Also, she mentioned some stuttering during gameplay—could that be related to the graphics card or something else? I haven't noticed it myself when I'm around, as it seems to behave.

Definitely go for the upgrade if it’s feasible! She might get curious about new, more demanding games and could benefit from the extra power. Plus, if you're considering moving to a 4K monitor eventually, the 5060 Ti will provide a smoother experience.

For the games she's into, there's really no need to upgrade unless her current card is on the verge of failure. If she wants a bump into something newer, maybe look into a used 3060 instead. It could be a better value for those types of games.

Jumping to a 5060 Ti will definitely be noticeable, but keep in mind that none of her current games will drastically improve in performance because they’re not demanding titles. In fact, they might run just as well on a less powerful card, so it's really about her potential interest in more intense gaming in the future.

For the games she's playing, the 980 Ti is still a solid choice. She could get by just fine with it. The stuttering might come from other factors like an older SSD or insufficient cooling. Consider checking the system temps and maybe upgrading to an SSD if she's currently using an HDD.

I’m planning to replace some of the older components like the AIO cooler and PSU. My main SSD is getting old too, but I just got a 1TB 990 Pro, so that should help a bit.

If you find a good deal on the 5060 Ti, it might not be a bad idea to upgrade for future-proofing. Just ask yourself if she plans on diving into more demanding games later. If she does, the 5060 Ti will definitely offer better performance in the long run.

Honestly, going from a 980 Ti to a 5060 Ti is a big upgrade. However, for the games she plays, you might not need to spend that much. Those titles don’t really push hardware too hard, so you should consider if it’s worth the investment when she's mostly playing lighter games.
