Is Upgrading from a GTX 960 to an RTX 5050 Worth It?

I'm considering an upgrade from my GTX 960 2GB to the RTX 5050 model from Asus, which costs around 290 euros where I live. I mostly play casual games with friends, so this seems like a big leap for me. My power supply is a Eurotech 500W BX12, and it has handled my current GPU without any issues, running at over 120W for a few hours. Do you think my power supply can manage the RTX 5050? Also, would it be better to go for the RTX 5050 6GB instead, given that the price difference is about 50 euros?

Just because the RTX 5050 offers a significant performance boost doesn’t mean it’s the best value. I wouldn't trust that power supply with new parts; it might be safer to invest in a new PSU along with a used GPU. Trust me, any modern card will be way faster.

My PSU has been reliable for a while, and it has many protections built in. I'm finding it hard to get a better GPU deal. RTX 2060 isn’t available here and waiting ages for shipping isn't an option. The RTX 3050 is around 190 euros, but it offers -50 performance.

Before deciding, check your CPU and other components. It might be worthwhile to wait for the RTX 9060 to release; jumping from the 960 to the 9060 could be a solid upgrade. Just keep in mind, even if the RTX 5050 sounds tempting, make sure it aligns with your overall system performance.

I have an i3 10100F and 16GB of DDR4 RAM.

It's best not to install a 6GB GPU if it won't perform well due to system limitations. I would suggest looking into a 3060 instead of the RTX 5050, provided you can find one for sale. It could be a better long-term investment.

The 3060 is an 8GB card! But the problem is I can’t find one for sale where I live, shipping takes ages.

If you're able to wait, I'd go for the RTX 9060 instead. It’ll be a better investment in the long run.

Where I live, the price for them might go up to almost 400 euros.
