I'm considering upgrading my CPU from a Ryzen 5600X to a 5900X, and I can get the 5900X for just $50. I currently have an RX6600 graphics card and 32GB of RAM, and I do some light gaming, playing titles like Helldivers, Baldur's Gate 3, and Hell Let Loose. While I don't play any extremely demanding games, I might want to upgrade my GPU in the future. I prefer to stick with the AM4 platform since I can't afford a new PC build right now. Is this upgrade a good idea?

Definitely go for it! For just $50, you're getting a huge boost with 6 extra cores and 12 threads, which is fantastic for multitasking. Just be aware that the 5900X can run pretty hot, so make sure you have a decent cooler. I had it running on a Rog Strix B450F motherboard, and while it was stable, I found it ran too hot on my setup so I switched back to the 5600X. But honestly, you probably have a better motherboard than mine, so you should be fine! Just keep an eye on the temps, and you should notice some nice performance gains, especially in certain games.
I see you're on a B450mA-ii with an AK620 cooler. That should handle the 5900X pretty well! Good luck with the upgrade!
I also have the 5900X, and I've noticed that in Helldivers, I seem to max it out at around 80 FPS, which is a bit strange since the GPU usage is only around 60-70%. So, it might be the game rather than the CPU holding things back. Overall, for $50, it’s a total steal. Most games run perfectly fine on it!
Good point! I checked mine and it pulls around 145 watts out of the box, but you can make it more efficient. With the right cooler, like the old Wraith Stealth I had, I got it down to 74 watts, and it was noticeably faster than the 5600X in benchmarks. Just keep in mind that some games only utilize 1 CCX, which can limit performance gains from all those extra cores.
