Is Upgrading from an RTX 3070 to a 9070 XT a Smart Move for 1080p Gaming?

I'm currently using an RTX 3070, but I've been noticing it struggles with heavily modded Skyrim playlists and some modern games at 1080p. I'm considering upgrading to a 9070 XT because I expect GPU prices to rise soon, and I might have some tax refund money coming in. I want to spend no more than $700 before taxes, and I understand that just wanting to upgrade isn't the best reason. However, with upcoming games like GTA 6, I know I'll need a better card eventually. My current PC build also includes an Intel i7-10700k and 32GB of DDR4 RAM.

Definitely upgrade, but think about getting a 1440p monitor too. Your CPU might bottleneck at 1080p performance. You might also want to consider the non-XT version of the 9070; that could free up some cash for a good monitor.

If your tax refund amounts to around $700, consider holding off a bit. Economic times can be tough, and saving that money might be a better decision right now. A GPU won't solve your financial needs.

Yes, upgrading is definitely worth it. The 9070 XT is a bit overkill for 1080p gaming, but it'll handle everything you throw at it. Plus, if you decide to upgrade to 1440p later, this card will still give you great performance.

It might be a bit much for just 1080p gaming, but the extra VRAM (16GB) will be a big help with modded games like Skyrim. Plus, a card that is considered 'overkill' now can be future-proof enough to last you for years, especially if you are staying at 1080p.

I'm in a similar situation with a 2080 Super, looking at the 9070 XT. I've seen great performance at 1440p, and if you're not planning to upgrade your resolution, the 3070 should still perform decently. But if you're sticking with 1080p, the 9070 XT will serve you well!
