Hey everyone! I'm thinking of upgrading my GPU, and I'd love your insights before I make a decision.
Currently, I have a Ryzen 5 2600 CPU and I'm using an RTX 3050 GPU, with both a 1080p and a 4K 144Hz monitor. My gaming goals aren't about hitting maximum FPS at 1080p. I'd like to play at 1080p Ultra comfortably with FPS around 80-120. For 4K, I want decent FPS—around 45-60+ with DLSS is fine.
I'm considering upgrading to an RTX 5070, but I'm worried that my older CPU might bottleneck the GPU performance. I understand it might limit max FPS at 1080p, but I'm not sure how much it would affect performance at 4K. Will the 5070 be a good upgrade for my needs even with the Ryzen 5 2600, or is it not worth it since my CPU might hold it back? I plan to upgrade the CPU in the future, but I want to enjoy gaming on my 4K TV now. Thanks for your thoughts!

Your CPU isn't the strongest, but it doesn’t really matter since the 3050 isn’t that great either. The 5070 will give you a solid upgrade path, and you can think about a CPU change later.
You might need more than a 5070 for 4K gaming with some newer titles. If you want to push for 1440p, the 5070 could work great. Just ensure the games you plan to play aren't too demanding on the CPU. It’s all about balance!
Your Ryzen 5 2600 will definitely limit the 5070 a bit, especially at 1080p, but you'll notice a huge performance bump overall. Plus, you can easily swap in a 5600X later, which will give you even better performance.
Absolutely, the 5070 is a significant upgrade from the 3050. Just make sure your PSU can handle the new GPU. I’d say pull the trigger!
Keep in mind, while the 2600 might bottleneck at 1080p, it shouldn’t at 4K. A bottleneck doesn’t mean bad performance; it just means you won't hit peak FPS. Upgrading the GPU now makes sense, and later you can opt for something better.
If it's in your budget, go for it! Upgrading your GPU will definitely make a difference, and you’ll want that 5070 when you can eventually upgrade your CPU too.
That's my concern too! Just worried if it will really be worth the upgrade right away with the 2600. Maybe I should focus on the CPU first?
