Is Upgrading from Ryzen 5600X to 9800X3D Worth It?

Hey everyone! I'm currently considering upgrading my setup from a Ryzen 5600X to an AM5 9800X3D. I mostly play CS2, where I often struggle with high frametimes and low 1% lows impacting my gameplay. Here's my current hardware: Ryzen 5600X CPU, ASUS B550M-K motherboard, AG400 cooler, 32GB of 3600 MHz RAM, and a 6600XT GPU. I'm wondering if the 9800X3D would be overkill for my needs, especially since I might upgrade my GPU later. If it is too much, what would be a more reasonable upgrade option? Also, if I go for the 9800X3D, what motherboard and cooler should I consider pairing it with?

Definitely go for it! I’m about to make the same update myself. I was looking at the ROG X670E Strix board, and I've already got an NH U14S cooler. Just need to grab the AM5 adapter. After using the 5600X and moving to the 5800X3D, I totally relate to the frustration with those 1% lows!

Just a heads-up, the ROG 870E Strix is quite pricey unless you specifically need some features from the X670E chipset.

Honestly, going for the 9800X3D with your GPU is kind of overkill, but considering how GPUs are priced nowadays, it could boost your FPS significantly across different games and give you better value for your money. If you want something more balanced, the 7800X3D would work well too!

I made the same jump and while I definitely notice improvements, especially in performance, it also depends on your resolution. If you're gaming at 4K like me, you see the benefit of the upgrade more clearly. That said, it should definitely last you through future GPU upgrades!
