Is Upgrading from Ryzen 5800X3D to 9800X3D Worth It?

Hey everyone! I'm considering upgrading my gaming setup, which currently includes an RTX 5070 Ti alongside a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, 32 GB DDR4-3600 RAM, and I game at 1440p with 165 Hz, possibly moving to 4K later. I'm curious about how much of an improvement I'd see if I switch to a Ryzen 9800X3D, DDR5 RAM, and a new motherboard. Is it really worth investing in this CPU and RAM upgrade?

For comparison, I switched from a 5800X3D to a 9800X3D and saw a performance boost from around 140 fps to about 220 fps in some titles at 1440p. But how much you gain can vary a lot by game.

Wow, that's a huge jump! I'll have to check out some benchmarks.

You'll likely see an overall improvement of about 10-15% in gaming performance with the 9800X3D, but specific titles might show gains of anywhere from 1% to 35%.

That seems to align with what I'm hearing. I recently upgraded my GPU, and it made a noticeable difference!

Before you decide, think about whether your current setup is truly struggling. If your 5800X3D is performing well, the gains from upgrading may not justify the cost, especially if you don't have issues with gameplay now.

At 1440p, you'd likely see a decent uplift. But at 4K, the benefits of a CPU upgrade diminish significantly. Most games at that resolution are GPU-bound anyway.

Exactly, when I moved to 4K, my CPU didn't even break a sweat!

If you're not into competitive gaming and just want smoother play, an upgrade may not yield significant benefits unless you're after ultra-high frame rates. The 5800X3D is still a great CPU. Maybe wait for later generations like AM6 for a bigger jump.

I agree, a better GPU might be a better investment right now.

Agreed! I just upgraded to DDR5 and noticed solid performance, but I'm waiting for Zen7.
