Hey everyone! I recently got some extra cash and I'm thinking about upgrading my PC, but I'm not sure if it's worth it. Currently, I have a setup with a 7700X processor and a 7900XTX graphics card, plus 32GB of DDR5 6000 RAM, which works great for 1440p gaming. I'm eyeing a prebuilt AI 50 Ultra V3 that has either a 7800X3D with a 5080 or even a 9800X3D with a 5080, aiming to future-proof my system. I'm contemplating whether I should just stick with my current CPU upgrade for now or also invest in a new graphics card, especially for better performance in ray tracing and DLSS. My question is: how noticeable would the performance changes be in terms of frame rates and temperatures?

Honestly, I'd recommend holding off on a full upgrade. Your current rig is already solid and should serve you well for years. Maybe save up for when AMD rolls out its last-gen X3D CPUs or when Nvidia's 6000 series cards come out. The 9800X3D is awesome, but your 7700X is still pretty powerful for 1440p. Plus, the 5080 is only about 13% better than what you already have, so it’s not a huge leap.
Your 7900XTX is a fantastic card. I'd wait for the 9080/9090 series or something new before upgrading. If you really want more power, consider upgrading your CPU, but only if you’re finding 1440p isn't cutting it anymore. If ray tracing and DLSS are priorities, maybe save a bit longer for a 5090 or the next-gen Nvidia cards coming up.
I upgraded from a 7600 to a 7800X3D with a 7800XT, and honestly, the biggest improvement was faster loading times in Civ 6. If you're not struggling with frame rates or 1% lows, I’d suggest waiting. It’s nice having an X3D to brag about, but the difference might not be worth your cash right now.
Upgrading your whole PC seems like an overkill. Just update your BIOS and swap in a 9800X3D if you're really itching for a change. You'll save yourself a lot of hassle and money doing it this way.
If you're curious about performance differences, there are plenty of GPU benchmarks online. For example, reviews like the one from TechPowerUp compare setups that could give you a clearer idea. The difference from 7700X to 9800X3D with the 5080 might not be significant at 1440p, but it really depends on the games and settings you plan to use.

That’s good to know! I might just hold off and see how future games perform instead.
