I've got a 3080 Ti and a Ryzen 5600X. I've heard that upgrading to a 7800X3D would really boost my performance. But is there a better option out there, or is this overkill?

Upgrading to the 7800X3D is definitely a good move if you're okay with changing your motherboard and RAM. You could even find some good bundles on sites like Newegg that come with everything you need.
You might consider a few options instead of just jumping to the 7800X3D. If you want to keep your current setup, the 5700X3D is a solid choice. Alternatively, you could switch to an AM5 platform with a 7600, or aim for top-tier performance with the 9800X3D if you're really looking to max out your gaming experience. It's all about what you want to achieve!
Thanks for the suggestions!
I made the switch from an i7 9700K to a 7800X3D while using my 3080, and the performance in competitive games was insane! For example, in Apex Legends, I went from inconsistent framerates to hitting that sweet 240 FPS consistently.
Honestly, it might be overkill. If you can afford the upgrade, go for it! But a 5700X3D would still work great with the 3080 Ti, and your 5600X isn't really holding you back much at higher resolutions, so consider that before you decide.

Yeah, I saw a bundle on Newegg! Might be worth it.
