I'm considering upgrading from my Asus B450-i motherboard to a B550 for some extra performance, but I'm not sure it's worth the investment. I recently upgraded my CPU from a Ryzen 3600X to a Ryzen 5900XT and my GPU from a 2060 Super to a 5060Ti with 16GB. While I've seen a significant performance boost in tasks like video editing with DaVinci Resolve—going from around 4700 to 7300 on the PugetBench score—I'm noticing that my graphics card scores are about 20% below average. It seems like others with similar setups but using B550 motherboards are getting better scores, even with lower core CPUs like the 5800x.
The main concern is that my current B450 motherboard uses PCIe 3.0, which could be throttling my graphics card, especially since the 5060 Ti is PCIe 5.0 and would benefit from the extra lanes. From what I've read, upgrading to B550 could help, especially given the difference in PCIe versions. However, I'm wary about spending around $230 on a new motherboard when I could simply downgrade my CPU or swap out for a different GPU that might work better with my current setup. I'm hoping to keep my system going until AM6 and DDR6 come out, so I'm debating if this change is worth it or if I should stick with what I have for now.

It might be worth considering the B550 if you want to future-proof your build, especially if you're planning on keeping it for a while. That being said, with your current B450 setup already giving decent performance boosts, I'd suggest focusing on your GPU changes first. Downgrading your CPU to an 8-core might not be necessary unless you need to save some cash for the B550. Your performance should still be solid with the 5900XT and 5060 Ti for the time being!
Honestly, if you already own the 5060 Ti, I think your money would be better spent on upgrading to a 5070 instead of switching motherboards. The 5070 has 16 lanes, which would give you a significant boost without all the hassle of swapping out your whole setup. Plus, it wouldn't be bottlenecked by your B450 board. The performance increase should be noticeable and save you a headache down the line.
Yeah, I started leaning towards that idea after reviewing my options. Might be better to keep things simple!

Great point! Maybe a GPU upgrade along with what I already have is the way to go.
