I'm currently running a system with a 5800X3D CPU and a 5080 GPU, hooked up to a 4K monitor, and it's performing well for my single-player and online gaming needs. However, I'm curious about making the jump to AM5. Specifically, if I upgrade to a 7800X3D or 9800X3D, how much of an FPS boost could I realistically expect? Is it worth the investment?

Honestly, at 4K resolution, you won't see much of a difference in most games. A research site noted it averages about a 4 FPS increase. Your GPU is likely the limiting factor at that resolution, not your CPU.
If you're considering upgrading, check out the benchmarks on YouTube. Generally, the 7800X3D might not give you enough of a framerate boost to justify the expense, but the 9800X3D could be a different story, especially if you're aiming for future-proofing. Just a thought - the next gen might be the last for AM5, so maybe wait for that 11800X3D instead.
