Is Upgrading to an i7 10700 and RX 6700 XT Worth It?

I'm currently using an i5 10400 and a GTX 1660 Super for gaming, but I've been experiencing a lot of lag lately. I can't afford to build a new PC, so I'm considering upgrading my CPU to an i7 10700 and my GPU to an RX 6700 XT. My current specs are an i5 10400 processor, a Gigabyte H410M V2 motherboard, 16GB of 2666MHz RAM, a 256GB SSD paired with a 1TB HDD, a GTX 1660 Super for graphics, and a 450W power supply. I also have a 180Hz monitor. Will this upgrade help?

I agree with the previous point. While the i7 10700 is a solid CPU, your primary bottleneck seems to be the GPU. You could upgrade to a better GPU for a noticeable improvement without changing the CPU right away. Just make sure to check the power supply requirements if you go for something like the RX 6700 XT!

Upgrading to the i7 10700 might not yield significant benefits given your current setup. Your lags are likely more tied to the GPU than the CPU. Plus, the RX 6700 XT is a bit overpriced right now since it’s out of production. It might be better to look for alternatives like the RX 6600 XT or a non-XT version, which offer good value. Also, keep in mind that your 450W power supply could be a limiting factor for these upgrades.
