Is upgrading to an Intel i7-8700K a good choice for playing Darktide?

I'm looking to upgrade my brother's computer to improve FPS and graphics for playing Darktide. The current specs are an Intel i3 8100 CPU, an RTX 1660 TI GPU, and a Gigabyte B360M motherboard. I found a potential upgrade to an Intel i7-8700K for $220 CAD. Is this a solid upgrade for what I need? Are there any better options out there?

Honestly, $220 for the i7-8700K seems a bit steep. For just a little more, around $240, you could grab an i5-12400F and a B760 motherboard instead. This combo would not only be faster and more power-efficient but also supports PCIe Gen 4! If you're looking for even better performance, for about $310 you could go for an i5-12600KF with a suitable motherboard. Definitely worth considering!

OP is in Canada, so those prices might be a little higher there. But yeah, that $220 CAD for the i7 does seem off.

It's ridiculous! The new price is closer to $300 CAD. Maybe you should look for a good bundle deal with a new motherboard instead.

Have you looked into the i5-8600K? It’s around $180 new or about $140 used on Amazon in CAD. Just another option to keep in mind if you're after a solid upgrade without going overboard!

Yeah, that's a pretty decent option if you're looking to save some cash while still getting better performance.
