Is Upgrading to an RTX 3060 Worth It?

Hey everyone! I'm looking to upgrade my PC on a bit of a budget. I've got about $300 saved up, and I'm considering getting an RTX 3060. I play games on a 1920x1080 monitor. Here are my current specs:

- CPU: Ryzen 5 5500
- GPU: Radeon 6500 XT
- Motherboard: Pro B550M-VC Wifi (MS-7C95)

It's a prebuilt from CyberpowerPC (GMA5600BSTV3 gamer master). Would the 3060 be a good upgrade for my setup? Or should I consider upgrading my CPU/motherboard first to avoid any bottlenecks?

Thanks for your input!

What’s the max refresh rate on your monitor? If it's around 144Hz, you might actually want to think about upgrading to a 1440p display first. They’re pretty decently priced now and you'll notice a big boost in visuals. You can always upgrade the GPU later!

It's 180Hz max refresh rate.

The 6500 XT isn’t cutting it at 1440p though, so it makes sense to prioritize a GPU upgrade first.

It really depends on why you're aiming for the 3060. Is the price your main consideration? That card is solid for 1080p but you might be limiting yourself.

I've heard the 3060 is the best choice based on my parts and budget, so I'm leaning towards it.

With a $300 budget, you could potentially look at something like a 3080 or even a 6800 XT, but just keep in mind that your current CPU might bottleneck those. You might want to consider a CPU upgrade too if you're serious about future-proofing your setup.

What CPU would you recommend for an upgrade?

I'm running a used 3060 12GB and it's doing fine for me! I have a 7600X, which is a slight upgrade over your CPU, and I'm able to play demanding titles like Cyberpunk and RDR2 without issues. If you're looking for better performance without overhauling your whole rig, I’d say go for it!

Thanks for the recommendation!

Honestly, just go for the best GPU within your reach! If you're okay with used parts, maybe consider a 3080. For new, the 4060 Ti is decent too. They’d both work with your existing CPU and motherboard, and you might get a bit more performance later with a CPU upgrade.
