I'm currently running a setup with a Ryzen 5 5600X and an RTX 3070, and I often hit CPU bottlenecks, especially when I enable ray tracing while gaming at 1080p. The only reasonably priced upgrade I've found is the Ryzen 7 5700X3D, since the 5800X3D goes for around $700 where I live, which is out of my budget. Will upgrading to the 5700X3D give me a significant performance boost, or should I save up for AM5 instead? If I go for AM5, I can only afford a 7500F or 7600 without the 3D cache.

Honestly, I think the 5700X3D is overpriced currently. The major limitation seems to be your GPU having just 8GB of VRAM, which is likely holding you back the most. It’s worth considering that the upgrade might not provide enough of a leap given your current hardware. Maybe AM5 is the better route for you.
If you’ve decided against AM5, then you might want to consider waiting for the 5700X3D, which could be the best option in 2025 as long as you can find one.
You might want to consider newer Ryzen options as they become available, but 5700X3D is still a solid choice if you can find it.
What’s your recommendation if not the 5700X3D? I’m looking to upgrade from an R5 3600.
If you decide on the Ryzen 7600, consider complementing it with fast RAM and a decent B650 motherboard for balanced performance.
You might actually be GPU bottlenecked, not CPU bottlenecked, particularly when using ray tracing. The 5600X pairs well with the RTX 3070. Also, keep in mind that production of the Ryzen 5700X3D just stopped, so prices are going up.
True! If that’s the case, you might be better off saving for an AM5 setup.
That makes sense, I see my GPU usage hovering around 60-70% while my CPU sometimes hits 80%.
After upgrading to the 5700X3D myself, I noticed better frame rates and smoother gaming, especially in demanding titles like Battlefield. I was happy to snag it before prices shot up after the announcement of its discontinuation.
Honestly, I think the 5600X is still perfectly fine. I'm sticking with mine until I really need to upgrade to AM5 or possibly AM6 down the line.
It won’t significantly boost your frame rates, but it does improve minimums and overall smoothness in gameplay. I made the jump myself and found it worth it despite my earlier doubts about it being a bottleneck.
Switching to AM5 is a better long-term investment. If you can save a bit more, you’d have access to newer tech in the future. What's your budget?
I could stretch it to around $400, and if AM5 is worth it, I'd consider saving up more.
The 7500F or 7600 are on par with the 5700X3D in terms of performance, and they give you a future upgrade path too. Plus, the 7500F is way cheaper, which is a big plus!
That's good to know! The 7500F is about half the price of the 5700X3D in my area, so it sounds like a smart move.
Exactly! Just makes sense financially and performance-wise.

Thanks for the insight! I recently got the 3070, and so far, it hasn’t been an issue in most games, but maybe the CPU is the bigger problem after all.
