I'm on the hunt for an alternative to Microsoft Word that offers a similar level of functionality without feeling too basic. I've tried Google Docs, but it falls short on formatting and layout options for more detailed writing. I need something compatible with both Windows and Mac since I often switch between a desktop and a MacBook while traveling. I'm open to buying software, whether it's a one-time payment or a small subscription, as long as it's user-friendly and dependable. I've been hearing a bit about WPS Office lately—does anyone here use it for writing or document tasks? I'm really curious about how it stacks up against Word regarding features, file compatibility, and overall experience before I dive in.

No way! I don’t trust WPS Office at all; it feels like spyware. Stick with something reliable like LibreOffice instead.
I'm no fan of WPS Office—it feels like Chinese adware to me. I'd go for LibreOffice or maybe OpenOffice. If you're okay with subscriptions, just getting an Office 365 plan is fairly affordable, around $99 a year.
Just a heads up, OpenOffice hasn't really been updated in ages. They’ve mostly just been tweaking the code here and there to make it seem active for donations.
