Issues Receiving Messages on Secondary iPhone After Update

Hey everyone! I'm dealing with a frustrating issue. I've got an iPhone 16 Pro Max with a SIM card and an iPhone 12 Pro Max that I transferred the SIM from, so it no longer has a phone number linked to it. Before I updated to iOS 26, I could still send and receive messages and FaceTime calls using my phone number on the iPhone 12 when connected to Wi-Fi. But now, after the update, I can't do that anymore. I've tried restarting both devices, signing in and out of iMessage and FaceTime, and toggling them on and off, but nothing seems to work. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Just a heads-up, if you've removed the SIM, iMessage can only work with your old number for about 30 days. It’s a kind of safety feature they have in place. Since this issue just popped up, it might be related to that, despite having your new phone for longer.

That's weird! I've had the new phone for almost a year, and this problem just started yesterday. It makes no sense to me.

It sounds like you might need to register your phone number for iMessage. Go into Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, and check if your number is listed properly. If it shows a loading wheel next to it, that could be the issue. Have you seen any specific error messages?

Actually, I did forget to mention that my number is just stuck on a loading wheel. I tried tapping to remove and readd it, but no luck.
