Laptop Charging Port Blocked by Smashed Apple – Help!

Hey folks, I had a bit of a mishap yesterday. I was carrying an apple along with my laptop in my backpack, and when I got home, I discovered that the apple got squished against my laptop and jammed into the charging port along with some other ports. I managed to clean out most of the apple gunk with a toothpick, and it seemed to be working fine the same night. However, this morning my laptop won't charge; it only runs on battery power when plugged in. Could the remnants of the smashed apple be causing this issue? Any advice on what I should do?

You're definitely going to want to be cautious with cleaning. The previous commenter has your cleaning method down—isopropyl alcohol is key. Avoid poking around too much with hard objects; that could make things worse. Just let the alcohol do its job and dry completely before trying to power it back up.

First off, make sure to power down your laptop completely before you start cleaning. Use a flashlight to check the port for any sticky residue or wet spots. A toothpick isn't the best tool for this because it won't get rid of the sticky sugars. Instead, grab some 90 to 99% isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush or cotton swab. Avoid using water at all costs! Just soak the swab in alcohol and clean around the port. Let it dry for about 30 to 60 minutes before you plug it back in. If possible, try a different charger or cable to see if that helps.

Lol, who knew apples could wreak such havoc? But seriously, if you think about it, if you had both an apple and the charging setup was right, your magsafe wouldn't have betrayed you like this! Also, make sure to check for any goo that may have slipped into the case itself too.
