Hey everyone! I'm having a major issue with my laptop keyboard that keeps spamming the number '9' repeatedly (`999999...`) even when I'm not touching it. This started happening recently and is really messing with my ability to type anything.
Originally, I had glitches with other keys like 'O', 'L', '.', and the Windows key, but those seem to be sorted out. Now it's just this '9' key. To add to the frustration, I run a Minecraft SMP server, and I can't even manage it right now because of this keyboard problem.
Here's what I've already tried: resetting Windows while keeping my files, uninstalling TLauncher and Avast, running full virus scans with Malwarebytes, and reinstalling the keyboard drivers.
I'm not sure if it's a software glitch or something wrong with the hardware, especially since the problem persists even after reinstalling drivers. I'm considering booting into Safe Mode to check if that helps, disabling HP Hotkey Support, or even doing a full clean install of Windows. But I'm nervous about wiping everything because it's my father's laptop and there are important files on it.
As a temporary fix, I'm thinking about using an external USB keyboard just to get back into my SMP and manage things. If that works, it could mean there's an internal issue with the laptop's keyboard itself. I'm just a 15-year-old trying to game with friends, and it's super frustrating being locked out of my own server. Any advice or similar experiences would be hugely appreciated! Thanks, everyone!

It sounds like you've done quite a bit of troubleshooting already, and it seems likely you’re dealing with a hardware issue rather than software. My suggestion is to open up the laptop and disconnect the built-in keyboard entirely, usually through a small ribbon cable. Then, you can just use an external USB keyboard. There's a good chance that will resolve the issue completely. If you want to go a step further later, you can look into replacing the keyboard module or even try to clean it up yourself. Using a USB keyboard will at least get you back to gaming! Good luck!
I appreciate the tips! I’ll check it out but it sounds like a bit of work. I did some BIOS tweaks and restarted, and it seems okay right now, but I’ll remember this if it goes haywire again. Thanks!
