After installing Nvidia Game Ready driver 616.56 on my laptop, the display started repeatedly dimming for a few seconds and then returning to normal brightness. This happens while browsing in Chrome and while playing games, with the cycle continuing every few seconds. The problem began immediately after the driver update, and I did not experience it with the previous version. Device Manager's Roll Back Driver option is unavailable, so I'm currently leaving 616.56 installed and wondering whether this is a known driver bug or if there's another recommended way to revert or fix it.

You could try switching to Nvidia’s Studio Driver. For a clean changeover, remove the current driver with Display Driver Uninstaller and then install the Studio version instead.
Windows 11’s Auto Color Management setting may help. One person reported that enabling it stopped the display flicker and kept the screen stable for at least 40 minutes, so it’s worth testing before changing drivers again.
Several people are seeing the same behavior in different browsers, including Edge, so it doesn’t seem limited to Chrome. If the issue isn’t too disruptive, waiting for an Nvidia fix may be safer than repeatedly reinstalling drivers or changing other display settings.
I tried that, but the dimming continued. It looks like Nvidia may already be aware of the problem and is working on a hotfix.
