I'm currently searching for a completely free software solution that can do network discovery for printers and notify me via email when the ink levels run low. I've tried out tools like Lansweeper, SnipeIT, GLPI, and HP Web Jetadmin, but they all have limitations and require payment for certain features. Does anyone have suggestions for a tool or method that can help with this? I'd love to know how you've resolved similar issues in your company!

If you're comfortable with coding, consider writing your own PowerShell script using SNMP to check ink levels. There's a starting point on GitHub you can use as a base. It's got great flexibility for customization!
You might want to check out Zabbix. It's a powerful monitoring tool that can be set up to track printer statuses and alert you when ink levels are low.
Just a thought, but most printers today have a web interface you can access. If all your printers are from the same manufacturer, they might have their own tools for monitoring and alerting you when the ink is low.
Have you looked into PRTG? It allows for 100 sensors for free and can perform network discovery along with sending email alerts. It's worth a shot!
Check_MK is another solid option. The raw version is free, and it can do much more than just monitor printers. It’s also easy to manage if you set it up correctly.
