Looking for a New GPU Under $400 — Is It Worth It?

Hey folks! I haven't played many modern games in quite a while, but I just picked up The Last of Us II on Steam and it's running decently at around 60-70 FPS at 1080p with mostly high to ultra settings. However, I can't get good performance at 1440p. Given that my build is around 8-9 years old, I'm thinking about upgrading. Here's my current setup:

- **CPU**: AMD Ryzen 7 1700 (3.8GHz)
- **Cooler**: ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 280
- **Motherboard**: Asus STRIX B350-F
- **RAM**: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2400MHz)
- **Storage**: Samsung 870 Evo 1TB SSD
- **GPU**: Gigabyte G1 ROCK GeForce GTX 1080
- **Power Supply**: Corsair CX550 (550W)
- **Monitors**: Asus ROG SWIFT PG278QR (27" 1440p) and HP E22 G4 (21.5" 1080p)

I'm considering a budget of around $300-$400 for a new GPU. What are your thoughts? Is this budget enough for a noticeable performance upgrade? I'd also be up for a new PSU, but I'm hesitant to overhaul my whole system right now since it would mean replacing the CPU, motherboard, and RAM too, which I can't justify for a few years.

You might want to look into the RX 9060 XT. It's a solid upgrade and should perform at least twice as well as your 1080!

What about picking up a used 6800 XT? That could be another good option!

Your PSU should be okay, but consider this build:
- AMD Ryzen 5 5600 CPU
- 32 GB RAM kit (DDR4-3200)
- RX 9060 XT GPU

All of this would come around $550. That combo would definitely give you a nice boost!

9060 XT sounds good! Just worried about compatibility with my B350-F motherboard and if I should stick with known RAM.

Honestly, you might want to just hold on to your 1080 for now and save. Black Friday could bring better deals on both a CPU and GPU combo. Plus, adding more RAM in dual-channel would definitely help you out!

Yeah, agreed! If you bump your RAM up, it could alleviate some performance issues without breaking the bank.

For a budget-focused upgrade, I’d recommend getting a 850W PSU first, then looking at newer GPUs like the 9060 XT if you're also considering a processor upgrade in the future.

The RX 9060 XT is definitely great value right now at around $350. If you can afford to, replace your RAM to a 2x16 GB kit for better performance too. A GPU and RAM upgrade combined would really help you out!
