Hey everyone! I'm in the process of building a PC tailored for bioinformatics work. Based on my research, I understand that the most crucial components are a powerful CPU (32-64 cores) and a substantial amount of RAM (128-256 GB). I've started selecting some parts, but I'm unsure about their compatibility, especially since a few aren't listed on PCPartPicker. As a newbie to PC building, I'm also feeling a bit lost regarding cooling solutions and choosing the right case. I'd love any suggestions or assistance you can provide. Here are the parts I'm considering:

- **CPU:** AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7970X with 32 cores, 4 GHz - 5.3 GHz Turbo
- **Motherboard:** ASUS PRO WS TRX50-SAGE WIFI A TRX50 sTR5 DDR5 CEB WiFi 7 PCIe 5.0 RAID 10GbE
- **Hard disk:** SSD WD_BLACK SN7100 4TB M.2 PCIe Gen4 NVMe with 7000MB/s speed
- **RAM:** Crucial 128GB (2x64GB) DDR5 5600MHz CL46 SO-DIMM ECC
- **GPU:** MSI GeForce RTX 5070 GAMING TRIO OC 12GB GDDR7
- **Power supply:** Forgeon Reactor 1200W
- **Liquid cooling:** Be quiet Silent Loop 3 360mm
- **Case:** PC Nox Hummer Astra ARGB USB 3.0

Thanks a bunch!!

I have several systems with similar specs, and I recommend spending a little extra on a Gen 5 SSD; they're incredibly speedy. Also, like others have said, reassess your choice of RAM and power supply to ensure you're getting the best performance out of your Threadripper setup.

Hey! I noticed some issues with your RAM choice. The SO-DIMM form factor won't fit your motherboard; you'll need standard DIMMs (often labeled UDIMMs). Also, reconsider your GPU—if your bioinformatics work doesn't require heavy graphics processing, a less powerful option might save you some cash. Regarding your power supply, I've never heard of Forgeon; for a build of this caliber, you should stick to well-known brands like Corsair or similar to ensure reliability. Check out the A-tier options on that spreadsheet linked in other discussions.

Just a heads up, the SSD you're considering doesn't have DRAM cache, which might slow it down. Look into Gen 5 SSDs for something super fast—like the T710 or 9100 Pro—these will be better for your setup.
