I'm putting together my first PC for my 18th birthday and would love some feedback before buying the parts. My budget is roughly £1,500–£1,600, although I can stretch it a little if the upgrade is worthwhile. I'm currently leaning toward an AM5 build because I'd rather have a platform I can upgrade later without replacing the motherboard, processor, and memory all at once. Are there any compatibility issues, better-value alternatives, or parts I should change?

You may be able to improve the overall balance of the build with a different parts combination. One suggested configuration was around 30% faster depending on whether a game is limited by the processor or graphics card, so it’s worth comparing complete builds rather than judging each component separately.
Memory prices are unusually high right now, so you could start with 16GB using two 8GB sticks and upgrade later. Make sure you check compatibility with a PC-building tool, then compare prices across individual UK retailers instead of automatically buying everything from one place.
An alternative would be an AM4 system with a Ryzen 7 5800X3D and 32GB of DDR4, possibly buying the memory second-hand. It could offer strong gaming performance for the money, though it gives you less room for future platform upgrades.
If the budget allows, consider moving up to an RX 9070 XT. Putting more of the budget toward the graphics card could make a noticeable difference in gaming performance.
The main reason I’m considering AM5 is the upgrade path. I’d prefer not to replace the CPU, motherboard, and RAM together when I want to upgrade later.
