Hey everyone! I'm a first-time PC buyer and have only ever gamed on laptops. I started doing some research and watching tech channels online to get a better sense of what I need. My budget is flexible, but I'm really looking for a PC that lasts at least three years.
I want this PC for two main purposes: 1) Gaming: I love action-RPG games, especially those with rich world exploration like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, The Witcher, and Elden Ring. I'd like to play them on high or max graphics settings. 2) Home Office: I often run multiple Microsoft Office and Adobe apps at the same time. I'm not into video editing.
Based on this, I put together a build that I found from local sellers. Here's what I'm considering:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
- CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken RGB 240mm
- Chipset: AMD X870E
- Motherboard: MSI MPG X870E EDGE TI WIFI
- Memory (RAM): 32GB x2 5600MHz DDR5
- SSD Slot 1: 2TB Kingston KC3000
- SSD Slot 2: 2TB Kingston KC3000
- Power Supply: MPG A1000GS PCIE5
- GPU: Nvidia Geforce RTX 5070
- Case: H7 Flow Black
I'd love any feedback on my choices. Should I upgrade or downgrade anything? Thanks in advance!

I think you're in a solid direction, but what resolution are you targeting? If it's high refresh rate at 1080p, your setup is great. For 1440p or 4K, consider bumping the GPU to a 5070ti for smoother gameplay.
What monitor are you planning to use? That's also important for your build since it replaces your laptop's screen. Make sure to go for a monitor with a 4K label if you want the best experience for those RPG explorations!
I haven’t picked one yet, so that’s still a question mark for me. I guess I should prioritize getting a good 4K monitor.
You might want to lower the CPU a bit and spend more on a GPU with higher VRAM, especially for big open-world RPGs. The 9800X3D is top-notch, but games like Elden Ring only push about 60fps. If you can, aim for something like a 5070ti or 9070XT for better graphics quality.
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely look into that.
Your motherboard seems a bit excessive for what you need. A good quality B850 will suffice. Also, the power supply might be overkill—consider a smaller one for savings. Overall, focus on the GPU for 4K gaming. A 7800X3D could be a good middle ground CPU if needed.
I suspected as much about the motherboard. I appreciate the feedback!

Got it! Is there anything else, aside from the GPU or CPU, that looks overpriced?
