Looking for Affordable Backup Software Options for Linux Support

I'm working in local government IT and need a new backup solution that offers good visibility and Linux support. Right now, I have 5 virtual machines on a high-availability host pair, alongside 4 job-specific servers, each with less than 500GB of data. I've also got a Synology SAN with about 25TB of total data. Currently, I'm backing up on-premises to a separate building and doing weekly (soon to be twice-weekly) backups to removable drives stored off-site.

I've spoken with Acronis and Veeam, but their pricing has become outrageous. They reportedly charge based on total data capacity, which seems absurd to me. I've received quotes starting at $4k per year, which is insane compared to the $750 one-time cost of our existing software, which still works perfectly after 6 years. The only problem is that I need Linux backup support now, which my current solution lacks. Are there any reasonable alternatives out there that haven't jumped on the price gouging bandwagon?

Quick question, are the VMs using shared storage from your Synology SAN? And is that SAN backing up to another Synology device? What hypervisor do you have running?

The VMs are on Hyper-V, and most of the data on my Synology SAN is organized in LUNs, along with a few standard shared folders.

If you're considering Veeam, for 5 VMs you're looking at around $446 per year. That said, I had a quote of $900 plus $2800 in ‘Capacity Packs’ for my SAN, which is just ridiculous.

Isn’t Veeam’s community edition free for up to 10 VMs? That could save you a lot.

You might want to check out Nakivo. It's relatively affordable but it does come with its own set of issues. Just be aware that they also now charge per TB for backups.

Yeah, I was looking at Nakivo too, but I'm concerned because my data load is increasing fast, especially with all the new video files we're adding from PD cameras.
