Looking for Alternatives to Solarwinds for Monitoring 20,000 Nodes

Hey everyone! We're currently using Solarwinds for our monitoring needs but are exploring other options. With the rapid pace of technology changes, I'm curious if anyone here has moved away from Solarwinds and found something they like better. We have about 20,000 nodes to monitor, and of course, cost is a significant factor. Any suggestions for alternatives that are equal to or better than Solarwinds? Thanks for your help!

I've found that both Netdata and Zabbix are real upgrades from Solarwinds. They're much more user-friendly and flexible, though you'll have to invest some time to get them set up properly.

Zabbix seems like a popular choice! I’m definitely considering it.

Did you have any specific issues with Solarwinds? I'm curious since I'm looking to switch too.

Have you thought about whether your nodes are physical or virtual? For virtual nodes, some off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions might work, but as you scale, you might find it more cost-effective to build a custom in-house system that meets your specific needs. It’ll also help you manage your inventory better.

We're in the process of migrating to virtual nodes, so that’s definitely something I’ll keep in mind during our cost analysis.

Right on! I’m also looking at how we can optimize our setup as we grow.

If you want a comprehensive solution, consider ELK stack with Zabbix or CheckMK. Just remember, they need a bit of tuning and a dedicated person to manage it.

Honestly, Solarwinds isn't cutting it anymore. If you're looking for something robust but still affordable, you might want to try Nagios or Zabbix. Both have learning curves, but they're comprehensive. Load them up and see what suits your needs!

Good to know! I’ll check out Zabbix, especially with the features it offers.

Make sure to consider Icinga2 as well; it has a better UI than Nagios.

If you're okay going open-source, check out Observium or LibreNMS. They're easy to set up and pretty reliable. Just be aware of the learning curve and the community support!

Definitely! And you can integrate Grafana for better visualization.

I think going open-source might be the right way for us. Thanks for the tips!
