I'm considering upgrading my Ryzen 5 5600X, which I originally got when I built my PC a few years back. My friends have mentioned the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, but I've come to find out that it's discontinued and tough to find. I'm on the hunt for another AM4 CPU that would offer similar performance and work well with my AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT, particularly for VR gaming since that's the most demanding task I do. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Honestly, the best gaming CPU that's still available for AM4 is the 5800X. That's pretty much your best bet right now.
Upgrading from your 5600X might not really be worth it. The AM4 platform is essentially at its end-of-life, so there's limited potential for an upgrade.
The only AM4 CPU that comes close to the 5800X3D was the 5700X3D, but it's also discontinued now. Unfortunately, there aren't any current AM4 options that would significantly boost your gaming performance from the 5600X.
If you’re looking at alternatives, you might consider the 5700X3D or the 5600X3D, but expect to pay a premium for those since they're not easily found.

That's true, but for some gamers, an upgrade can still make sense. With RAM prices being so high, sticking with AM4 might not be a bad idea.
