Looking for an Affordable Web Host for Teaching Coding to Teens

Hey everyone! I teach middle and high school students how to code, and I've been using Site5 as my web host. It works well for my needs because I can manage my students' projects easily. I typically have about 20-25 students working on small to medium-sized sites, with some of my advanced kids even winning Congressional App challenges! We primarily work with a simple tech stack: HTML, CSS, Vanilla JavaScript, MySQL, and PHP.

Right now, I have two types of students. The basic students have their own folders on my main site, and they need FTP access through CodeAnywhere so I can oversee their work. Meanwhile, my advanced students require cPanel access for their own domains to set up databases and create more complex web applications.

Unfortunately, Site5 is getting pretty pricey, and I'm looking for other affordable solutions that offer the same features. I've tried A2 Hosting, InMotion, and KnownHosting, but I'm open to any other suggestions or insights you might have!

Have you considered using a VPS with WHM/cPanel? It gives you complete control over accounts, allowing you to create as many as you need for your students. Plus, you could set up sub-domains, so there's no need to buy individual domains for each student—like making a sub-domain for each student using their initials or names. Each student can have their own cPanel access, and you could even implement an onboarding process to create accounts easily. It's definitely worth a look!

Hi! As the CEO of KnownHost, I'd love to know what challenges you've faced with our platform. Given your needs, a reseller account may be beneficial, allowing you to set up FTP accounts and subdomains for beginners while offering full cPanel accounts for the more advanced students. While a VPS could work, the cPanel license fees can add up, making it similar in cost to a reseller account. Let's see if we can address any issues you've experienced!
