Looking for Budget CPU Recommendations for Light Gaming

I'm a beginner trying to build a new PC, and I'm looking for some guidance on CPUs. I want a setup that can handle light gaming on titles like Rome II and Shogun II Total War, ideally at least on high settings. My current laptop has an Intel Core i7-4712MQ 2.3 GHz processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 2TB SSD, but I want something that performs better than that. My budget is pretty tight, around £75/€85/$100 for just the CPU (I don't have any other components yet). I noticed Steam suggests a 2nd Generation Intel Core i5 for those games, but I'm hoping to find something with a bit more capability for future gaming without going overboard. Any advice would be really appreciated!

Just to clarify, is that budget only for the CPU or the entire PC? If you're only looking for the CPU, you might want to consider your overall budget for the whole system to get the best value. Honestly, a newer budget CPU should outperform your old laptop processor without breaking the bank.

It's just for the CPU, I don't have other parts yet.
