Hey everyone! My PC is over 13 years old—it's a hand-me-down from my brother and was supposedly top-notch back in 2012. I just tried playing the Oblivion remake, and even with a 4060 graphics card, I'm only getting around 20fps. The game asks for a 6-core CPU, but I'm still using an old 4-core one (can't check the specs right now). Do you think it's worth it to replace the whole motherboard and CPU since I'm still using 2012 tech? I also have 16GB of RAM, which is the minimum requirement, while it suggests 32GB. Will upgrading the RAM improve performance a lot, or is the CPU the main bottleneck here? I'm pretty new to building PCs, so I could use some guidance.

Before you decide though, check what CPU and motherboard you're currently using. You can hit Windows key + R, type 'msinfo32', and see your specs. If it’s an older AM3 or LGA2011, upgrading may be necessary; otherwise, you may find 6+ core CPUs for those platforms, albeit with limited performance gains.
Honestly, you're probably looking at needing a complete upgrade except for the GPU. You might check r/buildapcforme for more tailored advice.
But they already have a 4060, right? It doesn't seem like a full build is necessary if FPS isn't a huge priority.
Right? I don't even need 200fps; I think a solid 60fps would be totally fine for my gaming.
If you've got the 4060 already, I'd recommend getting a budget-friendly 12400F + a B760 motherboard, plus 32GB of DDR4 RAM and an NVMe SSD. I upgraded a friend's setup with that for around $300, and it runs beautifully.
Yeah, most likely you'll be on something like AM3 with a Bulldozer or LGA2011. Upgrading to a modern CPU along with motherboard and RAM could be a good investment for better efficiency.
