Looking for Build Advice on My Custom PC Journey

Hey everyone! I'm diving into a DIY PC build and would love some input. Here's what I've got so far: an ASRock Z77 Extreme4 motherboard, 16GB of G.Skill RAM (two 8GB sticks), and a Supernova NEX650 power supply from EVGA. I also have a 500GB Samsung SSD and an NZXT case that I'm refurbishing and painting. Currently, I'm using an ASUS ROG Strix 980 GPU, but I'm planning to upgrade to an RTX 3060 Ti soon.

I'm working on a budget, mostly trading parts I already own, and just want to take my time with this project. I disassembled everything last night, cleaned it up, and got my workspace ready. Just to clarify, I'm not looking to build a powerhouse right away; I'm more focused on enjoying the process. Any advice on what parts I should look for in the future, especially minimum specs, would be super helpful! Thanks in advance for any tips! I'll keep everyone updated on my progress!

How much have you spent so far (excluding the RTX 3060 Ti)? I’d suggest thinking about selling the case and the GTX 980 to raise some funds for a new motherboard. It'll help you make a more substantial upgrade without stretching your budget too much.

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly CPU, consider the 7500F. It could offer some good value for your build!

I’d recommend upgrading your CPU and motherboard first. The Z77 motherboard is compatible with Intel's i7-3770K, which would give you a solid boost. With the DDR3 RAM you have, the RTX 3060 Ti might bottleneck the performance. The GTX 980 is still pretty good, so focusing on the CPU and motherboard upgrade makes more sense for now.
