Looking for CPU Upgrade Advice: Should I Stick with AM4 or Go for AM5?

Hey everyone! I'm considering upgrading my CPU and feel like now is the right time since I doubt prices for computer parts will get much better soon. I'm not completely sure if I should also upgrade my motherboard, as my current one was a cheap replacement after the original failed. I've been eyeing some X3D chips, but I'd love to hear other suggestions. Here are my current specs:

- Motherboard: MSI MPG B550 GAMING
- CPU: Ryzen 7 3700x
- GPU: Radeon RX 6800
- RAM: 32GB Corsair 3600 DDR4
- Power Supply: 1000w Corsair
- Storage: Samsung NVME M.2 boot drive

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Your RX 6800 is still a fantastic card! If you stay with AM4, the Ryzen 9 5950X or Ryzen 7 5800XT could be great picks. But if you're thinking about transitioning to AM5, look for the Ryzen 7 7800X3D or 9800X3D paired with a new motherboard and DDR5 RAM. Just use your current power supply and case, and you should be all set!

If you're looking to upgrade, consider selling your GPU and RAM together for about $400 and then grabbing a 7800X3D bundle. The integrated graphics on that chip can run a ton of older games nicely!

I really don't think that's a good idea. I'm not looking to cut costs; I just want a CPU that won’t bottleneck my set-up.

Honestly, if you're planning on upgrading, it might not get cheaper anytime soon. You could look into the 5000 series like the 5600X or the 5800X, which all perform pretty similarly for gaming. The X3D models are great but are getting harder to find and pricier now. If you want to jump to AM5 and DDR5, keep in mind it'll be a bigger investment — around $600 total for a new CPU, motherboard, and RAM. You can probably sell your DDR4 for a decent price, though.

Good to know, thanks! Also, do you happen to know if AMD has any plans for another X3D line in the near future? I've heard amazing things!

Definitely check out pricing on AM4 X3D CPUs like the 5700X3D or 5800X3D, if you can find them at a reasonable price. If they're too pricey, the 5800X or 5800XT would be solid alternatives without breaking the bank.

Thanks! I really need to learn to jump on good deals faster, especially after my last upgrade was during the price craziness.
