Looking for Feedback on Hexnode MDM and Alternatives for My Small Business

I'm seeking opinions on Hexnode MDM based on user experiences. I need to manage about 50 devices (30 Windows and 20 macOS) and I'm considering if Microsoft Intune would be too much for my company's needs. I don't have extensive experience with Intune; I've just started with it and find it quite complex as I am the sole sysadmin. We're mostly interested in basic MDM functionalities. Any insights or suggestions?

I don't think Intune is overkill for 50 devices. For basic tasks like pushing settings, it's pretty straightforward. You can check out intune.training to help you get up to speed quickly. The most challenging part is usually app packaging for custom updates, but that’s just one facet of Intune's capabilities. If you have an M365 license, using Intune makes a lot of sense, especially since it excels with Windows devices, though there are better options for macOS. It’s worth considering various alternatives, though, depending on your specific needs.

I’ve used Hexnode, and while it does get the job done, it can feel a bit clunky with horrible support. I switched to Intune, which is powerful but has a steep learning curve, especially if you're just aiming for basic management. If you’re looking for something simpler, consider checking out Primo. It's user-friendly for both Mac and Windows, with automated workflows. If the price point is similar to Intune, it might suit your needs better.

Whatever you choose, I highly recommend using Apple Business Manager (ABM) for your Apple devices. Get your reseller to add your devices into ABM when you purchase them, especially since you have about 20 Apple devices already. If you have the right licenses, Intune should meet your needs, but personally, I find it less effective for deploying non-App Store macOS apps. That said, managing configurations with Intune works well.
