Hey everyone!
I've been planning out a new PC build and would love some feedback on it. Here's what I have so far:
|Type|Name|Price (in my region, converted to USD)|
|:-|:-|:-|
|GPU|Sapphire RX 9070 XT Nitro+|900|
|Motherboard|MSI B650 Tomahawk WiFi|200|
|CPU|AMD 7800X3D|420|
|RAM|G.Skill Flare X5 DDR5-6000 CL30 (2x16)|130|
|Power Supply|be quiet! Straight Power 12 850W|200|
|Case|be quiet! Silent Base 802|190|
A few things to note:
- I'm considering going with AMD for this build as I'm not really interested in NVIDIA right now, despite the good points about DLSS and the performance it brings. I'm hesitant because my past experiences with VRAM have been a bit of a mixed bag. For instance, I had stuttering issues in the game Wukong even with DLSS on. Could that be due to the 8GB VRAM on my previous GPU?
- I thought about upgrading my CPU to the 9700X, given that I also use this PC for other tasks, but gaming is still the primary focus, which is why I went with the 7800X3D.
- I did consider a more powerful PSU for future upgrades, but they're much more expensive in my area and I don't foresee needing it. The 850W unit should suffice for now.
- My SSDs and HDDs will be carried over from my old build, along with my CPU cooler, which is quite reliable.
- I'm fine with my current RAM choice since I believe 32GB is more than enough for gaming and regular tasks, especially with the cost-performance balance.
- For the case, I wanted one that was quiet yet spacious enough for everything, and the Silent Base 802 fits the bill.
- I also use a 1440p monitor and might consider 4K in the future, so I opted for the 9070 XT to ensure I have the power to manage that.
Lastly, I'm hoping for a build that emphasizes silence and reliability since I've had issues in the past with my current setup. I'm really interested in trying out Linux as well, but will keep Windows 11 for now.
Thanks for any advice you can give!

You've got a solid build going there! Just a heads up, NVIDIA tends to have smoother experiences for gaming, especially if you're aiming for that console-like feel. But since you’re leaning towards Linux, AMD can be a great choice there. Try using MSI Afterburner next time you play Wukong to check your VRAM usage; it might give you some insights into whether you need a GPU upgrade or if it's just a driver issue. Also, consider the 9800X3D for potentially better performance! By the way, how's the pricing on the 5070 Ti in your area?
Thanks for the info! Just check around and see what the range looks like; prices can really vary here.
You might want to check out Logical Increments for some excellent guidance on pricing and build recommendations! They have some great resources to help with balancing your build for value.
Thanks for the tip! I haven't heard of that site before, but I’ll definitely check it out for some extra insight.
Great advice about the VRAM check! As for the 5070 Ti, if you know of reliable manufacturers that are silent, that would be awesome. If it helps, I found the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5070 Ti WINDFORCE SFF is about USD 200 more than what I'd expect.
