I'm on the hunt for a free backup solution that can handle backups for about 5 to 6 servers. The ideal software would need to support backing up to both an onsite NAS and an AWS S3 bucket. A bonus would be if it could also manage SQL Server transaction logs. My client is quite cost-sensitive, so paid enterprise solutions are off the table. I've heard that Veeam can cover all my needs, but only with their Enterprise Plus version, which isn't feasible for my situation. I considered using the free version of Veeam with some scripting to upload to S3, but I'm not confident that's a reliable long-term strategy. Any recommendations?

Have you checked out Restic? It supports multiple backends including S3, so it might fit your requirements well.
A good free option for your needs would be using Duplicati or UrBackup along with rclone. It's not the sleekest solution out there, but it definitely gets the job done for backing up to both NAS and S3.
UrBackup is a bit underrated in my opinion. It’s particularly good for on-premises and NAS setups.
I'd personally recommend sticking with Duplicati for its simplicity. It's really user-friendly and works well with S3 for incremental backups.
