Hey everyone! My IT director has asked me to find some free software options for securely erasing SSDs, but there's a catch—we need something that also includes accounting and reporting features. We currently use BLANCCO, but our license is about to expire and the renewal cost for next year is over $5000. Since we switched to a longer ownership model, we won't be needing to wipe as many PCs and Macs, so we're hoping to find a free alternative that meets our needs. While tools like DBAN and the secure erase options in BIOS are fine for erasing drives, they don't provide any audit trail, which is something we need for potential audits (even if they haven't happened in years). Does anyone know of any free software that fits these criteria?

Check with your SSD manufacturer! They often have their own utilities for securely erasing drives. Those old 'DoD compliant' tools are mostly a myth now and can actually damage your SSD without necessarily erasing every bit of data.
