Looking for Guidance on Choosing an M.2 SSD for an Older Motherboard

Hey everyone! I'm in the market for a new SSD since prices are expected to rise soon. My motherboard is on the older side: it's an Asrock Taichi AMD X370 AM4 DDR4-SDRAM. I'm worried about compatibility, especially when it comes to M.2 SSDs. Do I need to consider the generation of the SSD? Can I just buy the latest version without any issues?

Prices are already starting to creep up, so it’s a good idea to buy now. I just picked up a Lexar NM790 4TB, which seems to be the sweet spot for price per TB, considering I already own a 2TB one. It has a high endurance rating of 3000TBW, making it a durable choice!

Just be sure to choose an NVMe M.2 drive instead of a SATA one, and skip Gen 5.0 drives. That should keep you in the clear!

I've found Samsung and Crucial SSDs to be the most reliable and affordable options. Just make sure you go for at least a 2TB capacity!

PCIe is designed to be both backwards and forwards compatible. This means a PCIe 4.0 SSD will work in a 2.0 slot, but it will operate at the slower 2.0 speeds.
